Many villages like Sadivayal, Tamil Nadu and Ratanpur, Bihar, have received Amrita Water Distribution Systems which relieve the physical stress, time, danger, and inconvenience associated with women having to travel long distances to obtain water for household use. With access to community taps, women often store extra water in their homes for ease of use. Lack of awareness of water contamination and storage practices result in poor health and illness. Researchers designed a water-testing device and storage system. Water was tested and stored differently according to use: drinking, cooking, and cleaning water. Creative training initiatives successfully educated village women using a nudge initiative that was later replicated in other villages.
