Economic independence is essential for women’s empowerment: Sunny Joseph, MLA

Sunny Joseph, MLA for Peravoor in Kannur, Kerala, said that true women’s empowerment must include economic independence. Joseph is a member of the Indian National Congress and an advocate by profession. He was inaugurating the Amrita SREE annual meeting for self-help groups (SHGs) in the district. He added that self-employment by women is a powerful tool to achieve this goal.

Swami Amritakripananda Puri delivered the blessing speech. Kannur Municipal Councilor ET Savitri, BJP State Secretary K. Ranjith, Amrita SREE Coordinator R. Ranganathan, and Brahmachari Vedavedyamrita Chaitanya also addressed the gathering.

Aid was distributed to around 10,000 women who are members of Amrita SREE SHGs from across Kannur. Support for the women included food, clothing, financial assistance, and grain supplies, as well as working capital for each SHG with 20 members.
