Amrita SREE SHG members gather in Haripad: Invoking the feminine power

Another 10,000 women who make up Amrita SREE‘s 2 lakh members gathered for an annual meeting in Haripad, Kerala. This was the fourth phase of distribution for the self-help groups (SHGs) in the state’s Alappuzha district.

Adv AM Arif with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is the MP representing the Alappuzha constituency and delivered the inaugural address. He said that the Amrita SREE SHG project is a comforting touch for those who were once helpless. After facing great challenges during difficult times, these women now carry on their lives with confidence.

Kerala MLA Ramesh Chennithala, Indian National Congress, presided over the function. He said that one of the inspiring elements of Amrita SREE is that it brings its members together regardless of caste and religion. It not only provides basic needs support to the women, but also develops their self-confidence and economic independence.

Swamini Suvidyamrita Prana delivered the blessing speech. BJP Southern Region President K Soman and Amrita SREE Coordinator R Ranganathan also addressed the gathering.

Amrita SREE members received relief packages of food, clothing, and financial assistance. In addition, ₹30,000 of working capital was given to each SHG with 20 members.
