Launch of significant C20 initiative for women in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)

The Women in STEM Caravan began today to mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

The Centre for Civil Society (CCS) and P&G Shiksha launched the Women in STEM Caravan. Held in New Delhi, the event took place in collaboration with the Civil 20 (C20) working group for Gender Equality & Disability (GED).

The Caravan will go around several locations in India with the view to examine the barriers, provide policy recommendations for India’s G20 Summit in September, and highlight the best practices (Udaaharan) for education and skill development.

Celebrating the International Day for Women and Girls in Science, the initiative kickstarted with a powerful roundtable conference. Dr. Bhavani Rao, a Co-Coordinator with C20’s GED working group and Amrita University’s UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment, took part with deep commitment to the vision.

Unlocking the potential of women and young girls, which also reaches others living on the margins, enables them to become thriving members of society. In India, this is crucial to bring alive the dream of Amrit Kaal for Bharat.

Between February and March, events for the Women in STEM Caravan will be held in Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Baddi in HP.
